AGENDA

Cyber Sunday Maryland Farm Bureau Special Pre-Conference Session
12/5/21 Cambridge, MD
Cyber threats and solutions for the ag community

This special pre-conference session of the 2021 Maryland Farm Bureau will focus a spotlight on the growing (and quickly evolving) threats to the agriculture/farming community from cybercriminals, nation states, activists, malicious competitors, and others. We will cover how to recognize these threats, how to defend against them and if needed, how to respond to an attack.

We are featuring subject matter experts who will explain (in straightforward language) the entire landscape of who the ag/food adversaries are, what their motivations are, how they attack, and how to mitigate/respond to them (and more). This will likely be one of the most critical learning (and networking) experiences an agricultural professional will attend.

1:15 PM - Current Threats + Adversaries + Motivation

Who is attacking agriculture now and why? You are seeing more frequent headlines about ransomware assaults on our ag and food supply chain: JBS, New Cooperative, and others. Only a fraction are being reported publicly (as you likely know).

Speakers:
Hannah Thompson-Weeman – Vice President, Strategic Engagement at Animal Agriculture Alliance
Kyle Waggoner – Chief Information Security Officer at Perdue Farms
Brian Dykstra – CEO at Atlantic Data Forensics

  • Why is ransomware the preferred weapon of cybercriminals attacking ag?
    • Who is behind it?
  • Other unique threats to agriculture (and food) supply chain
  • China (plays by their own rules)
  • Competitors (want your secrets)
  • Activists and insiders (they have their own agenda)

2:30 PM - Attack Vectors + Mitigation (DIY)

What are the ways criminals are getting into agriculture’s computers? How can an ag professional make themselves less of a target? This session will focus on the current common methods of attack and basic ways to thwart them.

Speakers:
Eric Levitas – Director, Business Development at Edwards Performance Solutions
Justin Smith – President at Midshore Technology Services
Colin Hamill – Ransomware Protection & Recovery Specialist
Brian Dykstra – CEO at Atlantic Data Forensics

• 3:30PM Session 3 - Resources

  • How do you respond when your ag business is attacked by cyber criminals? There are certain steps in reacting to a cyber assault that should be taken. Learn about the roles and responses the various parties take when reacting to an attack. It is best to demystify the process in a comfortable setting where the “what if” questions can be answered before the cyber-attack occurs.
  • Speakers: FBI representative, Joe Brunsman
    • You’ve been attacked by a cybercriminal, now what?
      • When to call the FBI
        • What the FBI does (hint, bring risk and consequences to the bad guys)
        • How they do it
      • What about cyber insurance for the ag business?
